COMBATING COVID-19

So…exactly how long will it to take make treatments available to the public once approved by FDA?

Normally, it takes an estimated 15 years (see pic below) before a treatment is ready and/or data is available for FDA approval. However, due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 as well as the fact that there is no treatment available in the U.S., FDA has partnered with a number of biopharmaceutical companies, colleges & universities to investigate treatment options for rapid FDA Approval.

FDA will rapidly approve the respective treatment options that prove to be safe/effective when administered to animals as well as a small/select # of human patients.

What does that timeline look like…Realistically?

So to keep things simple…depending on how soon scientist are able to successfully identify a safe/effective treatment…FDA would be able to approve the treatment within a period of 3–6 months.

Keep in mind, this treatment most likely will not be a vaccine. This treatment would simply/possibly slow down the spread of the virus as well as alleviate discomfort from the symptoms of COVID-19. In addition to the treatment, the respective “treated” patients as well as the general population would have to continue to practice Social Distancing to prevent further spreading COVID-19 until a vaccine becomes available.
